My deck reviews have been few and far between in 2020-2021 but my deck purchasing has been a different story. So I plan to catch up with some short reviews to show you some fabulous decks. Speaking of which, I have eventually laid my hands on the Next World Tarot and it's a good 'un. So first things first, the version that I've waited to purchase is the pocket edition. They're not tiny at 2.5 x 3.75 inches, but they're easy to handle as they're much smaller than the original deck. The images on the cards are full of detail but the size is good enough to showcase the artwork. They still have white borders with keywords and planetary and astrological associations on there for each card as well as the title and numbers. The card stock is sturdy enough but lacks flexibility so riffle shuffling will leave a bend in the cards. They're a matt satin finish that can mean some clumping when overhand shuffling but that's probably the best option if you don't want lasting damage. There's no fancy box, just a tuck box and no gilding or edging but that is reflected in the price point. The image on the card backs isn't reversible. There's a little guidebook that fit's in the box with Christy C. Road's words on each card meaning but nothing relating to the content of the images and why they were chosen. The print quality in the guidebook is not great. I also purchased a coffee-table guidebook separately with A4 versions of each card image and it makes it much easier to see all the finer details. The written content is exactly the same as the small guidebook.
Where to Buy?The pocket edition is now on Amazon.co.uk for less than sixteen pounds. The coffee-table book isn't currently in stock.
