Introduction

Continuing the Halloween season theme, the Everyday Witch Tarot is a lighter, less scary deck than last week's the-bohemian-gothic-tarot-deck-review.html. It has been hugely popular and is included on many peoples top Tarot deck lists, so what is it about this deck that everyone loves? It is a little cartoon-like but it has an extra something that makes you think, these are good witches, who have your best interests at heart. And if you're a cat lover, there are feline familiars all through the deck. Here's what else we found when using the Everyday Witch Tarot.

What's Good?

  • The images are really clear and easy to see. Some backgrounds are quite detailed but not too fussy and give plenty of symbolism to help you read. They are based on the RWS system so are easy to read right out of the box
  • As I mentioned, every card has a cat or few on there and they're so cute
  • There are both modern and more traditional images on the cards. The Hierophant and Temperance cards show yoga poses while the 10 of Pentacles is a medieval family scene but they do blend well together in the deck
  • Card stock is a little on the thin side but stands up well to shuffling. Its glossy but not sticky and they're borderless with clear unobtrusive labelling
  • Packaging is a large sturdy book style box that contains an A5 size, thick full-colour guide book. The content is very well written in a friendly style that contributes to the warmth that helps make this deck stand out

What's Bad?

  • The deck lacks diversity. There's a few older witches but most are young, slim and white
  • The card backs are not reversible but the image of the cat, hat and broom amongst the stars is lovely

Stand Out/Favourite Cards

The Aces all have people in there which can make it difficult to differentiate from the Pages but the deck creator has cleverly made sure the Aces are girls and the Pages are boys.

The deck follows the RWS system but there are some charming differences like the motorbike as the Chariot (and just look at the kitty in the side car). The Star is just beautiful. The Moon cleverly shows the cats image under moonlight is distorted. I love the iconic witch flying across the moon on her broomstick. The World card is what really made me get this deck, happiness on the beach.

I love the expression on the young boy's face in the Four of Cups and the detail in the background of the card. A King with wine and the biggest chocolate cake you can imagine, now that's what I call abundance! The Page, Knight, Queen and King of the Pentacles suit are a family unit together in the Ten. This gives a sense of cohesion in the suit and helps the storyline flow.

Summary

This is the best deck for......any Tarot-reading witches looking for a friendly deck. At first glance it's hard to see why this deck has been so popular but once you get the cards in your hands, read with them and use the guide book you will see just how lovely the whole package is. It would be a great alternative to the RWS as a first deck.
