Well this is one I bet you didn't think you'd need. After all the animal decks, the cute and creepy decks and the downright scary decks, here's the deck to help you work at the young peoples level! The blurb says this deck is perfect for Millennials (Ages 25 - 40). Fortunately, The Wootique didn't check my driving license before selling to me. Is there such a thing as being too old for a tarot deck? Well, if there is, this one might be it. Read on to find out what it's really like. So, first things first, this is a fully illustrated deck. I was a bit worried that it would be a pip deck with some clever major titles but that theme of millennial-speak runs all the way through majors, minors and courts. The suit names are changed but they fit well with the energies: Swords are Thoughts, Pentacles are Swag, Cups are Feels and Wands are Vibes. I find those quite easy to work with. As you can see there's a small border around each image and a large title with a key word in the millennial style. There's also a TLDR description. No, I didn't know what that meant either. Apparently it stands for "Too Long, Didn't Read". If you're already sighing with irritation, now might be a good time to click to another review because if there's one thing I can say about this deck, its that it really commits to its theme. The website claims this deck is an "enchanting take" on the RWS. I'd say some of the cards are closer to the Smith Waite than others but it's there or thereabouts. One thing to note is that the cards are larger than standard at 8 x 14cm. The card stock is smooth laminated but not too glossy and not edged. I find them impossible to riffle shuffle because of the size and I need to split the deck just to overhand shuffle. If this deck does get picked up by a mass-market publisher, I'd definitely recommend they shrink it to standard size and put it on smooth matt finish to improve the tactile experience. I don't think it would adversely affect the visuals. Its a tuck box and there's no guidebook as such but the website has a guide to each card so in keeping with the whole experience, you can do a reading with your cards in one hand and your phone in the other. SummaryIf you want an avocado-flavoured taste of the millennial experience then this deck is perfect for you. If you are 25 - 40, enjoy and if you're 40+, welcome to 2023 people.
